New Form of Media
Hey Guys,
This weeks assignment was to come up with a new form of media and briefly describe it. Personally, I love video games, and increasing exposure to video games and what video game culture has to offer. I was thinking about creating a digital signature for individuals more closer to a social security number in that it is unique, and unlike a digital version of a person's actual signature. What this would mean is that it would create a verifiable way of making sure someone was actually in game or on line, and that signature automatically links to a persons profile and has public information about them. This concept is seen in symmetric key cryptography (for more on that, check out wikipedia or take CIS 3550 with professor wine, super dope class) where someone's unique private key is a way to verify that the parties involved the people they claim they are. There are tons of trolls on the internet and while they're more than welcome to their anonymity, there are tons of fakes out there who claim to be other people, catfish them, and sleep happily at night. Ultimately, I would hope an idea like this would foster more community growth on the Internet, as communities often build in games and other followings, and would only hope to strengthen camaraderie.
What do you guys think?

Hey Sabbir,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very cool idea and it caters to a very niche market, one that includes my little brothers who are complaining about trolls on the internet. I have seen the video game industry grow immensely in the past few years and this type of media can be applied to almost any new form of video game platform.
Hey!
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a good idea to have on a platform where identity is super important, like a social networking, a dating app, basically places where people might be meeting up one day. I kind of disagree about having it on video games. People go on video games to escape from real life, I think its totally cool that you could be playing games with someone 5 or 50 and not know it, and the people don't have to disclose any information to you other than how they're playing the game. I guess what I'm saying is, trolling is a art. ;)
